Zinc Food Sources

It should not be difficult for most people to meet their daily need for zinc in their diet. The following foods are all rich dietary sources of zinc.

• Shellfish—especially oysters and mollusks
• Meats—all types but especially organ meats
• Poultry
• Dairy products
• Whole grains
• Leafy and Root vegetables
• Legumes
• Soybean products
• Nuts
• Chocolate

In addition, in order to compensate for the loss of almost 75% of the zinc in wheat through processing, many cereals and grain products are fortified with zinc. Meat provides almost 80% of the average dietary intake of zinc for Americans, fish, poultry, fortified cereals, and milk. Fruits are not a good source of zinc.
